More than 26 million or one in nine American adults are affected by Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and an additional 20 million are at increased risk. With increasing numbers of people at-risk for CKD in Arizona, we know that the need for direct assistance for kidney patients and for preventative education is increasing.

In fiscal year 2006-2007, we looked at our community and reviewed the services we provide to identify ways in which we could better serve not only our patient population but also our greater community. We found opportunities as well as challenges and in 2007-2008 we Responded to the Need.

In Responding to the Needs of the patient constituency, we reinforced our commitment to our core mission of serving Arizona’s kidney patients and families by increasing the allowance for food and nutritional assistance and obtaining funding to create interactive internet connectivity.

In Responding to the Needs of our greater community, AKF launched the newest kidney health initiative, “Know Your GFR” with a state-wide extensive multi-media campaign to encourage the public to be proactive about their kidney health. The number of free kidney health screening programs (KEEP) was increased.

Our Community Responded with grace and generosity to support our programs. The 28th Annual Authors Luncheon produced by the Women’s Board of the Arizona Kidney Foundation was exceptional in presentation and attendance. The Kidney Cars Donation Program received better quality vehicle donations resulting in more dollars earned per vehicle, and Dancing with the Stars Arizona 2008 exceeded all expectations.

We are pleased to provide this community report highlighting our service programs and financial summary for fiscal year 2007-2008. We thank you, our community, for the outstanding support you continue to provide to allow us to work to improve the quality of life for all Arizonans.

Sincerely,

Jeff Weintraub
